Tagasaste or tree lucerne is a perennial forage shrub or small tree that needs little water and once grazed or
sheared regrows vigorously. Tagasaste is a fast growing evergreen legume tree from the Canary Islands. It is
a long lived perennial that can survive 60-80 years. It can be grazed or used as fodder. It has a high crude
protein content of between 23-27% and is highly palatable.
If it is left to grow into a tree it is an excellent source of nectar and bees love it.)
We are experimenting how well they grow here in New Braunfels and will document our journey here.
